Children learn skills of number, measure, shape and handling of data at an appropriate level for their stage of development. We use a structured published scheme as a basis for our work, but this is frequently supplemented with material from other schemes and we place emphasis on problem solving and mathematical investigation, which ensure that children learn to apply their mathematical skills in practical situations. Mental arithmetic and calculator work are also covered by all the children, and tables, which act as a useful earning aid, are taught. Again, this work is linked to a topic, when appropriate. The school also uses the Mathletics web based resource which children can access at home and at school.
