French
Beaumont means 'beautiful hill' in French. We felt that we should celebrate this by learning French at Beaumont. French taught in all our KS2 classes for 45 minutes every week. The National Curriculum states 'that learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures'. We aim to provide high-quality languages education that fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. We aim to ensure that the teaching of French will enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. Thus preparing pupils for life in Modern Britain.
The pupils in Year 3 and 4 are provided with opportunities to learn key language for the topics, which is then built on as they begin to develop sentences in Years 5 and 6. Throughout Key Stage 2, language is developed through speaking and listening games and activities.
