Mathematics
At BCP our maths curriculum is designed to develop fluency, reasoning, problem solving and an ability to undertake investigations, these skills can then be applied across other areas of the curriculum.
The scheme was developed to support the high mobility across the school and themes taught over a week to embed knowledge and skills.
We believe that maths is essential to everyday life and financial literacy for future employment. these links are made apparent wherever possible.
Through our maths teaching we aim to provide a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, an appreciation of maths in the world around us, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
We use our maths scheme of work as a basis for our maths teaching in classrooms, supplementing this with a variety of resources from other areas, to ensure that children are able to apply their knowledge confidently in a variety of contexts, problems and investigations.
We have additional 20 minutes of maths every afternoon from Year 1 -Year 6 where pupils develop fluency in times tables and arithmetic skills we call this ‘Fast Maths’.
